We Haul Or You Haul
Situated on the tranquil banks of the Eel River near the town of Chili, Indiana you will find the privately owned Miller's Canoe Rentals. A river popular with canoe enthusiasts from all over the country for decades, the Eel River is a class 1 river through farmland with little development along its banks. The river has several beautiful landmarks along its banks, such as a working gristmill at Stockdale, several iron bridges and small towns. As well as historical significance as it was long used by the Miami and Potowatami native americans and traders. There have been many artifacts found along its banks. Nearby attractions include the Mississinewa Dam, Peru , famous for the finest amateur circus in the U.S., Wabash, the first electrically lit city, Kokomo, home of the Elwood Haynes automobile and museum. Nearby rivers are the Mississinewa and the Wabash, also class 1 rivers.
Formerly known as J&J Canoe Rental, Louie and Teri Miller acquired the business in May, 2004. Take-out points at Bear Grass Creek DNR site (hwy 15), Roann, Stockdale, Zinn Bridge (700N&500E) Chili, Denver, U.S. 31.
There are several sites to put in your canoes. The first is at Hwy 15, or Bear Grass creek, a DNR ramp. Next would be the covered bridge in Roann, about 2 hrs. About one hour downriver is Stockdale Mill and dam. This dam must be portaged, or the canoe will be damaged. From Stockdale to Zinn bridge is about four hours. Along the way you will see one of the many Old iron bridges. After Zinn bridge , about 2 hours downstream is Miller's Canoe Rentals. It is about 1/2 hour to Chili.
From there from there you will go to Denver , about 3 hours. Next will be Mexico. There is a 2-3 foot dam there that is fun and easy to run. After the dam is Hilgeman's campground. A very nice, small campground with showers and tent camping sites for a modest rate. After that is a take-out at U.S. 31, a short distance.
Just let us know how long a trip you want and we will do our best to accommodate you.
