Situated on the tranquil banks of the Eel River near the town of Chili, Indiana you will find the privately owned Miller's Canoe Rentals. A river popular with canoe enthusiasts from all over the country for decades, the Eel River is a class 1 river through farmland with little development along its banks.The river has several beautiful landmarks along its banks, such as a working gristmill at Stockdale, several iron bridges and small towns. As well as historical significance as it was long used by the Miami and Potowatami native americans and traders.There have been many artifacts found along its banks. Nearby attractions include the Mississinewa Dam, Peru , famous for the finest amateur circus in the U.S., Wabash, the first electrically lit city, Kokomo, home of the Elwood Haynes automobile and museum. Nearby rivers are the Mississinewa and the Wabash, also class 1 rivers.
There are several sites to put in your canoes. The first is at Hwy 15, or Bear Grass creek, a DNR ramp. Next would be the covered bridge in Roann, about 2 hrs. About one hour downriver is Stockdale Mill and dam. This dam must be portaged, or the canoe will be damaged. From Stockdale to Zinn bridge is about two hours. Along the way you will see one of the many Old iron bridges. After Zinn bridge , about 2 hours downstream is Miller's Canoe Rentals. It is about 1/2 hour to Chili. From Millers Canoe to Denver is 2.5 - 3 hours. From Denver to Mexico is about 2 1/2 hours. Mexico to US 31 is about 1 hour.

The River otter and bald eagle populations are increasing, so come out and see if you can spot them.
